AI Bookkeeper & Controller

An AI bookkeeper that reconciles your accounts, chases what does not match and keeps the month-end close on schedule, with the evidence for every number.

Give it your bank and card exports, your invoices and your accounting reports, and it does the careful, repetitive part of bookkeeping: matching transactions, listing what will not reconcile and why, categorising spending, ageing what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers, and running a month-end close checklist so nothing is forgotten. Every adjustment it suggests comes with the reason and the document behind it, ready for you or your accountant to approve.

Things you could ask for

Written the way you would actually say them. The agent plans the steps itself.

  • “Here is the bank statement export and the transactions from our accounting system for October. Reconcile them and list every item that does not match, with the most likely reason for each.”
  • “Read our Stripe payouts for last month and match each one to the invoices it paid. Show me any invoice marked unpaid that Stripe says was paid, and any payout I cannot explain.”
  • “Every Monday, pull our unpaid invoices from the Google Sheet, age them into 0–30, 31–60 and 60+ days, and draft a polite reminder email for each customer over 30 days.”
  • “Build our month-end close checklist in Notion with a due day for every step, then each month tell me what is done, what is late and what is blocking the rest.”
  • “Go through this quarter’s card expenses and categorise them. Flag anything without a receipt in the Drive folder, anything that looks personal and anything that looks like a duplicate.”

What you get back

Reconciliations you can check line by line: a Google Sheet with matched and unmatched items and the reason for each difference, an aged list of receivables and payables, categorised expenses with missing receipts flagged, suggested adjusting entries with their supporting documents, and a month-end close checklist in Notion that shows what is done and what is late.

Where it is the wrong tool

  • It does not post to your books on its own. QuickBooks can be connected through the Connectors page; for Xero, Sage and other ledgers, export the reports and share them. Either way, you or your accountant approve every entry.
  • It is not a certified accountant. It does not file tax returns, sign off accounts or give tax advice; it prepares clean, documented work for the person who does.
  • It does not move money. Paying bills, payroll and transfers stay with you and your bank; it can tell you what is due and when.
  • It works from the data you share. A bank feed it cannot see is a gap, and it will say so rather than guess the missing balance.

Starting an agent with this role

  1. 1Create a Burrak account — any plan works, and your first week is $1.
  2. 2In the Marketplace, open the Roles tab, find Bookkeeper & Controller and choose “Start an agent as Bookkeeper & Controller”. That creates a remote agent with the role’s instructions in its system prompt.
  3. 3Connect the tools it needs — Google Sheets, Stripe, Google Drive, Notion, Gmail, Airtable — from Connectors.
  4. 4Give it a brief. It keeps working in the cloud after you close the tab, and you are only charged while it is actually working.

The Bookkeeper & Controller role, in practice

Can a small business use this without an accountant?
It will keep your records tidy, reconciled and ready, which is most of the monthly work. For tax filings, year-end accounts and anything a regulator reads, you still need a qualified accountant, and they will spend less time (and charge you less) because the books arrive reconciled and documented.
Can it run the month-end close every month on its own?
Yes, as a scheduled task. Once your exports land in Google Drive, it runs the reconciliations, works through the checklist and sends you a short report of what is done, what does not match and what needs your decision. You approve the adjustments.
How is this different from the Financial Analyst?
The Bookkeeper makes sure the numbers are right: every transaction recorded, reconciled and supported. The Financial Analyst uses those numbers to look forward, with forecasts, scenarios and decisions. Most businesses need the books right first.
